Dubrovnik presents an exciting winter event programme

Dubrovnik is a perfect summertime or wintertime city break destination, offering a wide range of events and activities all-year-round. The Croatian Tourist Board and the City of Dubrovnik presented Dubrovnik’s fabulous event programme for the winter of 2011/2012. The programme was first presented at the World Travel Market that just ended in London, a perfect venue for the introduction of this attractive winter event programme to all travellers seeking a sunny winter destination offering cultural programmes and exciting events only a couple of hours away.

The Christmas holidays are the winter’s highlight in Dubrovnik, a truly amazing city to spend the holidays in.  Christmastime, the season of giving and rejoicing, is the most special time of the year, with celebrations around each corner and the Christmas fair taking place from December 6th to January 8th. Following Christmas, Dubrovnik throws a spectacular New Year’s Eve party at Stradun, in the heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik, accompanied by numerous festivities all around the City. Hotel Excelsior, the favourite celebrity hotspot on the Adriatic, invites you to toast to the New Year 2012 in the most elegant gala event in Dubrovnik at a venue from which you will be able to see the spectacular fireworks as well as the Old City of Dubrovnik.

A remarkable event that takes place once a year, on the last Friday in January, when Dubrovnik’s museums open their doors to all visitors to show them a thousand years worth of history in their exhibits,  ‘The Night of the Museums’ is a must-see for culture vultures. ’The Night of the Pirates’, which is taking place for the first time at Dubrovnik’s Maritime Museum on January 27 2012, is not to be missed either.

At the beginning of February, Dubrovnik celebrates its patron saint in the remarkable Festivity of Saint Blaise, and the sweetest holiday, the Saint Valentine’s Day, is just around the corner.  Dubrovnik, the city of romance, offers a truly special St. Valentine’s Day experience. Media worldwide often describe Dubrovnik as synonymous with ‘the dream proposal’ and recommend it as ‘the favourite Valentine destination’. Hotel Excelsior with its astounding view of the Old City of Dubrovnik and the breath-taking sunrises above it is recommended as ‘the’ place to stay at to make your romance the most memorable.

British Airways, one of the world’s leading air carriers, has year-round direct flights to Dubrovnik, which will bring in many wintertime guests from the UK, for whom Dubrovnik, with its mild climate in winter months  with temperatures around 11°C, is the ideal sunny winter destination only a couple of hours away.
