September is wine month in and around Dubrovnik, especially in the renowned wine-regions of Konavle (south of Dubrovnik), and Pelješac Peninsula (northwest of Dubrovnik.

To celebrate the wine season and educate our guests on the magical and yet-to-come Croatian wines, Adriatic Luxury Hotels have dedicated the next weeks and months to promoting the finest wines the country has to offer at great prices across our hotels...

From fruity Pošip to rich, vibrant Dingač there is something for every palate.

As a special and very dear project of ours, we have partnered with one of the finest wineries from the Pelješac region - Skaramuča family winery - and have selected a premium plot to grow a limited variety of Plavac Mali grape to create a special Dingač reserve, which will be exclusively sold at our hotels and villas.

Part I - The area

Dingač represents a small patch of land covered in picturesque vineyards located on the southern hillsides of Pelješac Peninsula northwest of Dubrovnik. The area is unique for its microclimate and position, which can have up to 3000 hours of intense sunlight annually over its steep slopes spread above the Adriatic shoreline.

 

Part II - The grape

Plavac Mali - the region’s most prominent and most planted red wine grape is the basis of many of Croatia’s award-winning reds. Often compared to Zinfandel for (or the Italian Primitivo), Plavac Mali was actually found to be its’ immediate family as they both share their roots in the ancient Croatian variety of Crljenak.  While the name translates to “Little Blue (grape)”, the wines from this intense variety are anything but little. High in both alcohol and tannins, these wines are dense and robust, often with a spicy finish

The Skaramuča family vineyards are found on southern slopes of Dingač, spread across 20 ha of sun-kissed slopes on the Pelješac Peninsula. With so many award-winning wines, the decision to select a premium area of the vineyard for Adriatic Luxury Hotels limited vintages came natural...

THE WINE

DINGAČ RESERVE 2010, Limited Vintage

This elegant, multilayered wine with lots of ripe fruit notes such as cherry and prune is vibrant, rich and impenetrably ruby. The rich and layered fruitiness mixed with a final spicy touch of oak typical of Dingač results in pure pleasure of excellent balance:  luxurious, powerful and warm.
